This article describes the units of time used on our Minecraft time clock.
Ticks are the basic interval of time in which things in the Minecraft world change. A second has 20 ticks.
Note: A (game) tick is not to be confused with a redstone tick, which is also called “tick” (when dealing with redstone) but takes two game ticks. See also: the Minecraft Wiki article “Tick”.
Seconds, sometimes also called minutes, are as long as real-life seconds. An hour has 50 seconds.
#Hours
One day has 24 hours, each 1000 ticks long. A day starts with the end of sunrise (00:00).
Sunset begins at 12:00 and ends at 13:40, and sunrise starts at 23:10. Sleeping is possible from 12:27 to 23:22.
One month has eight days, mostly named after some of the friendly animals. The night of each weekday has a unique moon phase:
| # | Day | named after | Moon |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Monday | Moon | Full Moon |
| 2 | Ducksday | Chicken | Waning Gibbous |
| 3 | Cowsday | Cow | Last Quarter |
| 4 | Sheepsday | Sheep | Waning Crescent |
| 5 | Horseday | Horse | New Moon |
| 6 | Squidsday | Squid | Waxing Crescent |
| 7 | Caturday | Cat, the meme | First Quarter |
| 8 | Pigsday | Pig | Waxing Gibbous |
A Minecraft day is 20 real-life minutes long.
One Minecraft year consists of the nine months, sometimes also called weeks. They span eight days, which is equivalent to a full moon cycle, and are named after other mobs:
| # | Month | Mob |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ironary | Iron Golem |
| 2 | Zombiary | Zombie |
| 3 | Gharch | Ghast |
| 4 | Slimepril | Slime |
| 5 | Ocely | Ocelot |
| 6 | Magmacubust | Magma Cube |
| 7 | Mooshtober | Mooshroom |
| 8 | Snowember | Snow Golem |
| 9 | Enderember | Enderman |
A year, when unaffected by things like lag or players skipping the night by sleeping, is exactly one real-life day long.
